Songwriter Redd Stylez Delivers for Trey Songz

(Article written By Kimberly D. Bell - posted here with permission)
"Don’t you be afraid, to let me elevate you, welcome you to super, duper jupiter love." This is just a snippet from the single on the new album, 'Ready', sung by R&B sensation Trey Songz, and a lyrical masterpiece co-written by Redd Stylez.

Stylez, a young R&B crooner himself, found excellence in this slow, melodic song that plays on words and reminds us how it feels to have an out-of-body experience in "Jupiter Love." The song delivers a smoothness that allows the listener to never grow tired of the word play, along with the highs and lows of the melodies that Trey delivers.

Stylez had been writing for a number of other artists when Trey approached him for a song. “Trey and I have two different personalities…he’s the grown up version of me”, says Redd. So, he wanted the song to reflect his young spirit and Trey’s mature, serious nature. The result was a thoughtful hook written almost like a letter. The song, as effortless as it seems, is not a typical Redd Stylez tune as he favors more uptempo dance songs.

Redd has been writing for the likes of Omarion and other R&B artists who look for these types of upbeat creations and don’t mind taking risks creatively. Although he has penned the lyrics for a number of artists, he also records and performs himself and subsequently has retained many songs that fit only him.

He also enjoys collaboration, but prefers the spontaneity that is created in the moment - which is precisely the method that birthed "Jupiter Love." The lyrics sprang up around the beat, and the melody was easily found through the soft sounds with the end result being a tune that can only be compared to something galactic, "Jupiter Love."

As a result of their successful chemistry, Trey Songz’ album currently sits at the top of the charts. Therefore, you can probably expect some future collaboration between Trey Songz and Redd Stylez, as Jupiter Love is only the beginning.

“I’m a natural artist; when I write for other people I’m completely different, I want to bring out what is best for them.” - Redd Stylez

iPod Nano gets a video camera

Apple just announced that the new iPod Nano will have a video camera. This is the beginning of the ending for the  Flip Mino.

The new Nano also has a larger sceen, FM radio (that's a shocker), a built in speaker, VoiceOver (its speaks the names of songs and artists) and an awesome feature called "Live Pause" which lets you pause and "rewind" the station for up to 15 minutes in case you missed something.

This will be the hottest gift item this holiday season, I know I'll be buying several.

It's the angles baby

I've spent most of my life as a musician, but I've always made time to work behind the video camera. This past weekend in Philadelphia I shot this video for actor Quang Ly.

Once we secured the location it was just a matter of finding the best corner to use the natural lighting in the room - then optimizing the angles to keep the visual interesting.

5 Minutes vs. 3 hours

I was headed down to Philadelphia's Penns Landing (via South Street) to spend three hours thinking about my next big focus. Well this young lady stopped me in my tracks and in 5 minutes I had my answer. I never respond to street solicitation, but it's interesting that I made this one exception and came away with a 10 year project. More on the plan later.

Holiday Love (on Labor Day)

Today is Labor Day in the United States. Great time to re-connect with friends and family and strengthen good relationships. Also to share this song "Holiday Love" by my artist Redd Stylez. Enjoy!

I am a 90's kid (Keke J - Crush)

Music has a way of dating you, and while I feel comfortable making different genres of music including today's style of R&B, you have to have been around in the 90's to produce music like this record "Crush" that I did for Keke J. So cool to see that it has achieved 300,000 views on YouTube anyways :)

Awesome Jay-Z Commercial (Blueprint 3)

New Jay-Z commerical making a lot of noise on the net. But for Rhapsody? Who uses that???

Larry King vs Chris Brown

So I watched the Chris Brown interview with Larry King.   I felt Larry did his best to bring out some "juice" but Chris basically stiff-armed him.   I don't think the interview itself will do much to undo the damage to Breezy's career, but I do believe it gives him the closure he needs so he can start planting the necessary seeds towards redemption that would be required.

His mom (Joyce Hawkins) appeared understandably shattered by the incident, but I'm left with the impression that she's a strong woman with a plan for her son.

He'll have to do some amazing things unrelated to music.   As my dad taught me, when you plant bad seeds and grow weeds in your life, it's better to plant many more good seeds,  and then have these overshadow the bad seeds you planted, instead of spending the rest of your life trying to remove the weeds.

Quite hilarious that his lawyer (attorney Mark Geragos) had never heard of Chris Brown or Rihanna before the case!

Trey Songz "Ready" for Jupiter Love

I remember listening to Trey Songz "I Don't Wanna Leave" a few years ago and thinking, this song is not 'quite' there, but the closest thing I had heard to so-called "real music" from the younger generation at the time.

I also had been diligently training a young Singer/Songwriter named "Redd Stylez" at the time - so we purchased the album and added it to his "must listen" list.

A lot of amazing things have happened between then and now, but I find it spectacular that Trey's new soon-to-be-platinum Album "READY" features two contributions from Redd. One for the song "Jupiter Love" which they co-wrote and "Be Where You Are" which features Redd on background vocals.

I'm equally impressed with Mr. Trey Songz himself who I had a chance to spend some time with, working on some of his viral videos during the recording process. Intelligent, thoughtful yet vastly under-rated at the time, there was -no- doubt in my mind that he would emerge and redefine the word "Successful".

I sit here today watching the Trey Songz "Ready" Album take the top two spots on the iTunes R&B charts and yessir -- Trey is taking R&B to -another planet-...Jupiter to be exact.
